Convertible Necklace: 3 Stylish Ways to Wear One DIY Piece

DIY The Most Versatile Necklace EverAs a busy mom, I love accessories that do more than one job. This simple DIY necklace transforms easily to suit your day: wear it short around the neck, let it hang as a pendant, or wrap it around your wrist as a bracelet. It’s lightweight, customizable, and the perfect project to make in colors that match your wardrobe. I chose green and blue, but any palette will work.

DIY the Most Versatile Necklace Supplies

  • 15 green stones or beads (or any beads you prefer)
  • 26-gauge gold wire
  • 2 small gold spacer beads
  • 1 old T-shirt to recycle
  • Jewelry pliers with wire cutters

1. Thread the green beads onto the 26-gauge wire. Finish one end with a gold spacer bead and use pliers to form a small loop. Don’t close the loop completely—close it just enough so the beads stay on.

2. Cut the other end of the wire, leaving a little extra length. Add the second gold spacer bead and curl the wire into a loop to mirror the first end.

DIY Bead Necklace3. From the T-shirt, cut two long strips about 1 inch wide and roughly 2 feet long each. Stretching the fabric slightly will make the strips neater and more elastic.

DIY Bead Necklace4. Fold back about 1 inch of fabric on one end of each strip to create a thicker tab, then begin wrapping that tab tightly with a short length of wire.

DIY Bead Necklace5. Wrap several turns of wire around the folded fabric to secure it, trim any excess wire, and tuck in rough edges so the wrap looks clean.

DIY Bead Wrap Bracelet Tips: adjust the length of the fabric strips to change how the piece wears — shorter for a choker, longer for multiple wraps. Try mixing bead sizes or adding a charm where the loops meet for added interest.

Have fun experimenting with colors, bead shapes, or different types of fabric. This quick project is perfect for using scraps and creating a handmade accessory that can be styled several ways for everyday wear.
