Back-to-school season often means moving, and this year my college-age daughter is moving into her first apartment. To make the move less stressful and more efficient, we created colorful, printable moving labels and used strong packing tape to keep them secure on boxes and plastic storage bins.

Color-coded headers on each label identify the room the box belongs to, so everything ends up in the right place. The labels are designed with large writing areas so you can list the main items packed inside each box.

Ample writing space helps with unpacking—if a box isn’t opened right away, you’ll still know where key items are packed, saving time and frustration.

We used plastic storage tubs for many items so they can be stored under the bed or in a closet once moved in. Because you can’t easily write directly on plastic tubs, printing labels on copy paper and attaching them with packing tape is a simple, effective solution.

Rather than buying specialty sticker paper, we printed labels on regular 8.5×11 copy paper and cut them apart with scissors. They stick well when secured with packing tape and remain readable during transport.

Two sets of labels make packing even easier. The first set includes common apartment areas—kitchen, bedroom, desk, bathroom, laundry and decor. The second set is blank so you can personalize room names for your specific move, such as basement, family room, office, dining room, storage or garage. Download the PDF and print as many pages as needed.

We wrote on each label what was already packed or what we intended to pack, then attached the labels to our bins and boxes with packing tape. This method keeps labels protected and readable throughout the move.

Packing is still in progress, but the labels have already made a noticeable difference: items are organized and it’s easy to see at a glance what’s ready and what still needs to be packed.
