The Citrus Smash is a bright, refreshing juice my younger son created, named, and photographed himself. If you want a quick, revitalizing way to start the day or recover after a workout, this juice is an easy choice. He enjoys making juice with our juicer before school and after dinner, turning whole fruits into fresh drinks.
This fresh-squeezed orange juice, bumped up with grapefruit and lemon, delivers plenty of vitamin C and bioflavonoids. As he says:
This concoction has quite a zing to it, so watch out for a refreshing burst of flavor!
The recipe takes only a few minutes to prepare and is enjoyable any time of day.
Citrus Smash

Ingredients
- 3 oranges, peeled
- 1 grapefruit, peeled
- 1 lemon, peeled
Instructions
-
Push the peeled fruits through a juicer until fully extracted.
-
Pour into a glass and serve immediately for the best flavor.
Equipment

My son recommends cleaning the juicer before switching fruits. If the juicer was used earlier for a different recipe, like a green lemonade, residues can affect the next flavor. To rinse quickly, run a quart of water through the machine to flush out remaining bits.
Both of my sons have enjoyed juicing since they were little, and creating juice recipes has become a fun routine at our house. Over the years I’ve tried several juicers; a sturdy centrifugal juicer has worked well for our family and gives consistent results.
