A little background: I’ve only bought chocolate sauce once or twice in my life. I rarely put it on ice cream and, when I needed some for baking, I always whisked a few ingredients together on the stove. Years of making it at home made me realize I should craft a clear, reliable recipe that anyone can follow to get a rich, glossy sauce every time.

I still remember being disappointed by a commercial sauce as a child — it tasted weak and left an artificial aftertaste. That set me on a mission to develop a homemade version that actually tastes like chocolate. This recipe is the result: fast, simple, and genuinely chocolatey.

Ingredients

  • 250 g Dark Chocolate
  • ½ Cup Milk
  • 3 Tbsp. Golden Syrup
  • ¼ Cup Extra Milk, (optional)

Instructions

  • Place the chocolate, milk and golden syrup into a small pot over medium heat.
  • Stir frequently until the chocolate has fully melted and the sauce is smooth and glossy.
  • Remove from heat and serve warm, or let cool slightly for a thicker texture.
  • Store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to one week. Reheat gently before serving if it thickens.

Notes

For a runnier sauce, add extra milk a little at a time — the sauce will thicken when chilled. Use milk chocolate or a mix of milk and dark chocolate if you prefer a sweeter sauce. Scale the recipe up or down as needed.
